Storage Terminals for Bulk Liquids & Refrigerated Products
McDermott offers turnkey design and construction services for terminals that handle a wide variety of liquids, including refined products, crude oil, chemicals and bulk fuels. Utilizing our company’s engineering, procurement and construction resources, we have successfully executed terminal projects in some of the most geographically and logistically challenging places in the world. With more than 30,000 tanks built in more than 100 countries, McDermott is a leader in the design and construction of bulk liquid storage facilities. In addition to tanks, McDermott has designed and built more than 100 storage terminals.
Full range of services
We provide single-point responsibility for both greenfield projects and terminal expansions. We offer a full range of services that include feasibility and front-end studies, code interpretation, conceptual design, terminal siting, environmental investigation, detailed design, permitting, siting, regulatory and compliance support, procurement, construction, operator training, startup and commissioning. Our capabilities cover the full scope of terminal facilities, including marine jetties, loading and unloading systems, storage tanks, foundations, pumping facilities, fire/hazard detection and protection, communication and security systems, control systems, piping systems, buildings and power distribution.
McDermott designs and builds terminals that store products at ambient temperatures. We also have considerable experience with refrigerated systems and terminals for products such as liquefied natural gas, butane, propane, ethane, propylene and ammonia. Further, McDermott designs and constructs cryogenic systems, tanks and terminals that store products as low as -452°F (-268°C). Over many years, we have delivered almost 1,000 refrigerated storage tanks and spheres.
We execute many terminal projects on a lump sum, turnkey basis. By providing single-point responsibility, we can better control cost and schedule, ensure project quality and minimize our customer's risk through reduced interfaces. Project oversight is simplified, so our customers have more time to focus on their core business.
Utilizing our worldwide resources
Our integrated approach is successful because of our well-established and experienced engineering, procurement and fabrication resources. With locations worldwide, we employ people who understand the political and regulatory issues of the communities where we work and can quickly solve problems. Our international procurement offices identify qualified suppliers, inspect their products and materials, and ensure prompt delivery of materials and terminal equipment to the job site. Our fully-equipped fabrication shops provide high-quality components for our projects; for larger and more complex projects, we may establish field fabrication facilities. We have specialized construction crews around the world, and we direct-hire and train local labor whenever possible.
Delivering quality and safety
No matter where our projects are located, we design and build them in strict compliance with federal and local regulations. We participate in more than two dozen international code committees, and our company-wide technical standards meet or, in many cases, exceed industry standards. We also provide comprehensive safety training for our work crews around the world, an initiative that has earned us one of the best safety records in the industry.
