Procurement / Supply Chain Management

Certainty of supply requires thorough planning, realistic timetables, reliable expediting, a network of high quality suppliers and an understanding of the sourcing market.

At McDermott, global experience and long-term relationships are the basis for our procurement strategy. Our in-depth understanding of international markets and our relationships with key suppliers allow us to provide the best materials and services on time and within budget. As a result, we have successfully delivered projects in some of the most challenging locations on earth.

With procurement offices around the world, we have the in-house resources to efficiently locate, evaluate, purchase and arrange for the transport of materials and services to any project site. Our procurement staff is familiar with the markets, customs and environmental regulations, permitting requirements and laws of the communities where we work. Their localized knowledge is essential for expediting orders and quickly solving problems.

Supply chain management expertise

Our expertise spans the entire supply chain, from sourcing, purchasing and transportation logistics to inventory control, inspection and quality assurance. Every product and service we use must comply with our exacting quality and safety requirements. In addition to our procurement offices, we maintain fabrication facilities for manufacturing needed components and laydown yards for storing steel and equipment.

Over the years, we have developed strong relationships with key suppliers, manufacturers and service providers in a variety of industries. We utilize competitive bidding and negotiate long-term agreements to obtain competitive prices for materials and services. We also do our homework, extensively researching markets and suppliers to ensure we prepare accurate estimates, select the best products and obtain the best prices.

Smart work processes

We believe that every member of the project team shares some responsibility for the supply chain. Our engineers work with customers to select the technologies and equipment that best meet the project and cost requirements. Our project managers and procurement staff synchronize project schedules, materials orders and shipping logistics to minimize work delays. When potentially hazardous materials need transporting, our logistics and safety experts ensure safe and responsible movement of materials. We also design our projects and train our people to ensure construction materials are not wasted.

Long after our projects are complete, we serve as a ready source of spare parts for McDermott-supplied plants. We maintain engineering, design and purchasing records on every facility and piece of equipment that we supply so we can easily research, manufacture or locate and ship parts. We provide everything from bushings, nuts and bolts to vessels, reactors, piping and instrumentation. This service can be especially valuable during a plant turnaround; we can handle special tagging, export crating, documentation and provide rush shipping to virtually any location in the world.
