Summary

McDermott was awarded a contract on a lump sum basis to work on the South Hook (LNG) import terminal. Phase I of the terminal was designed to process the 7.8 million tons per annum (MTPA) baseload LNG supply from the first phase of the Qatargas II Project. The Phase I project scope included a ship unloading system, three full-containment 155,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks, and a regasification and send-out system. Marine works include major refurbishment of an existing jetty to allow berthing of LNG tankers. McDermott was subsequently awarded Phase II of the project. McDermott’s work scope for Phase II included EPC responsibility for a doubling of the facility’s regasification and send-out capacity, refurbishment of a second loading berth on the existing jetty, two additional 155,000 cubic meter full-containment LNG storage tanks, and expansion of the associated facilities. The five LNG storage tanks used the slip form technique to complete the concrete outer walls. Each LNG tank roof measures 308 feet (93.9 meters) in diameter and weighs 985 metric tons (more than two million pounds). These roofs are among the largest air-raised by McDermott. Much of the topsides facilities were prefabricated as preassembled units and preassembled racks with installation onto the completed substructure. McDermott received the National Joint Council safety performance award for this project.
