Summary
JG Summit Petrochemical Corp. selected McDermott to design and build cryogenic and atmospheric storage vessels for a petrochemical complex in Simlong, Batangas City, Philippines. The complex produces polyethylene and polypropylene resins for the plastics industry and is the first of its kind in the Philippines. The customer, needing quick expansion of the complex, requested a delivery schedule of 10 months. The project called for construction of cryogenic and atmospheric temperature low-pressure and pressurized storage vessels, including:
- One 18,000 metric ton double-walled cryogenic ethylene tank
- One 15,000 metric ton double-walled cryogenic propylene tank
- Two 20.5 meter diameter propylene Hortonspheres®
- One 17.5 meter diameter butene Hortonsphere
- Many flat-bottom tanks for storing water and other chemicals
We utilized our proven techniques for air-raising dome roofs to accelerate construction of the double-walled tanks. To speed erection of the Hortonspheres, we performed much of the assembly on the ground. As a result, we successfully completed the field construction of all vessels in nine months, one month ahead of the delivery date requested by the customer.
