- Demonstrates McDermott’s capability to design and execute projects safely in extreme environments and remote locations, such as the highlands of Papua New Guinea with heavy rainfall and high seismic activity.
- Over 4,000 tons of truckload materials delivered through 600 km of poor roads, with 2,000 workers at peak.
The Hides gas conditioning plant is the upstream portion of ExxonMobil’s PNG LNG project. The gas is lifted from six wellheads, treated at the Hides gas conditioning plant, and then transferred down the mountain by pipeline to the LNG liquefaction facility near Port Moresby. The project featured a multi-location execution approach involving offices in Singapore, Brisbane, Perth, Houston, and London. Challenges included a remote site location in a high seismic and heavy rainfall area, as well as intricate infrastructure and logistics planning. Construction was performed on a direct-hire basis, and pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up assistance were provided.
