McDermott Operational Values
To further evolve the culture instilled by Taking the Lead with QHSES, the McDermott Operational Values (MOVs) were created to identify key procedures and processes that foster positive attitudes and behaviors.
Our Philosophy
The twelve MOVs are founded on industry-recognized standards. They are aligned with the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers’ Life-Saving Rules.
- Readiness Planning
We ensure that all key activities for each phase of a project are identified, planned and assessed and that associated hazards and risks are managed. Monitoring readiness plans to ensure that controls, resources and necessary support are in place prior to commencing the next phase of work.
- Journey Management
We assess and control the health, safety and security risks prior to travelling and during the journey.
- Plant and Equipment
We ensure that all moving plant and machinery is fit for purpose, operated by competent personnel and that account is taken of operational hazards and risks before any work proceeds.
- Risk of Impact
We assess our surroundings for potential risks of impact from moving objects, vehicles/equipment, pressure release or dropped objects.
- Mechanical Lifting
We recognize inherent risks in handling loads by cranes or other mechanical devices while ensuring all activities are assessed and performed by competent personnel using certified, approved equipment.
- Permit to Work
We plan, coordinate and control activities presenting exposure to significant risks and ensure that these are performed under a permit to work to minimize the likelihood of an incident.
- Ground Disturbance
We only excavate after an area has been assessed for the presence of underground hazards, soil stability, environmental factors or other conditions that may lead to an incident.
- Working at Height
We recognize that working at height presents a significant risk and, wherever possible, should be eliminated. Where work at height is unavoidable, all measures necessary to minimize the risk of falls shall be taken before work commences.
- Confined Space
We shall not enter spaces not normally intended for human occupancy, due to potential atmospheric or environmental hazards unless these have been assessed and controlled.
- Energy Isolation
We are committed to ensure that work involving exposure, or potential exposure to energized systems, shall only commence if the power source and any stored energy hazards have been formally controlled and isolated.
- Management of Change
We commit to work in accordance with agreed plans and procedures and when a change is required this shall be assessed, documented, approved and communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
- Continual Improvement
We believe that continual improvement drives the organization to increased performance and long-term business sustainability.
