The Gorgon Subsea Project is currently McDermott’s largest subsea fabrication project, to be installed in 4,429 feet of water at the Gorgon Field offshore Western Australia. The contract was awarded to a McDermott subsidiary and the scope of work includes fabrication and assembly of 15,432 ST of structures, comprising 79 manifolds, control distribution unit (CDU), PLETS and pipeline termination structure (PTS) and respective foundations, with the heaviest unit weigh- ing more than 1,433 ST. The work scope also includes 63 jumpers and spools weighing a total of 2,535 ST. The Gorgon Subsea Project has proven to be a significant challenge to available technology, with its high quality requirements and a 50-year design life for all structures and components.
