Subsea

Optimized subsea systems and safe, cost-effective operating strategies.
We design subsea infrastructure that reflects reality, and enables safe, reliable operations. For deepwater systems, we know cost-effective construction, transportation and installation is essential.
Our subsea services cover concept screening, modeling, full field architecture, control systems, construction, transportation, installation and commissioning of subsea hardware, risers and flowlines. Across deepwater fields worldwide, our EPCI portfolio includes:
  • Production Manifolds, Sleds, PLETs/PLEMs (Pipeline End Terminations and Pipeline End Manifolds)
  • Rigid Jumpers
  • Risers - Top Tension, Bundled Hybrid, Flexible and SCRs (Steel Catenary Risers)
  • Umbilicals
  • Flowlines
  • Tie-backs and production trees
  • Subsea Distribution Units (SDU)
  • Terminations - Umbilical Termination Assemblies (UTA), Topside Umbilical Termination Assemblies (TUTA)

Engineering

We focus on early reservoir analysis, subsea systems, flow assurance and operability, field layout, riser technology and design, mooring and buoy-based systems and life-of-field requirements. We perform engineering from feasibility and concept studies, to FEED and detailed design, installation, commissioning and operations, including system start up, shut downs, depressurization, pigging and chemical injection.

For maximum hydrocarbon delivery, we optimize and properly size downhole completions, tubing and flowlines. We analyze the total system to eliminate and mitigate flow assurance problems – from wellbore perforations, manifolds, trees, flowlines, risers, topsides and export pipelines to market. We study every issue to ensure hydrocarbons reach their destination, evaluating success through optimum designs that prevent, mitigate and remediate flow problems without compromising safety or economics.

Construction

We have fabricated numerous subsea components for ultra and deepwater environments from our worldwide fabrication facilities including hydro-testing, coating, insulation, layout of subsea infrastructure and welding quad joints for SCRs and tendons. Our Morgan City Multi-Joint Welding Facility is designed with dual, parallel firing lines to prepare double- and quad- joint line pipe, SCR, fatigue-sensitive flowlines and tendons. We transpool flexible pipe and umbilicals, for Reel-Lay by our vessels, and our established procedures and track record is extensive with carbon steel, clad Inconel, cold rolled pipe and SCRs.

System Integration Testing for subsea hardware, including bundled hybrid risers is done onshore using Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) procedures. Trial fits for structures including manifolds, PLETs, PLEMs, jumpers, subsea PIG launchers and receivers is carried out at our yards. Working with technology partners we fit up equipment including flying leads, terminations, trees, UTAs, SDUs and TUTAs.

Installation

Installation campaigns are rigorously planned and executed, imperative when weather windows are narrow in locations subject to strong currents and harsh meteocean conditions. Our SURF installation includes pipelines, flowlines, risers, umbilicals, power and control cables, via S-Lay, J-Lay, Flex-Lay and Reel-Lay, deepwater lowering of subsea hardware, and deepwater moorings across a range of water depths.

Our modern subsea installation vessels, NO102 and Lay Vessel NO105 (expected delivery mid-2012), operate across a range of water depths, installing products and facilities worldwide. Strategic improvements to other vessels in our fleet will enhance deepwater lowering systems, thrusters and dynamic positioning. Our vessels readily accommodate a variety of welding systems and we are an industry leader in welding subsea high-grade carbon steel and CRA pipelines.
