Graduates and Students

Starting out strong.
Recent Engineering-degreed college graduates when hired are candidates in our multi-year Global Graduate Development Program, which combines formal classroom instruction with on-the-job training.
Global Graduate Development Program (GGDP)

GGDP is a rigorous, multi-year experience designed to help new engineering graduates transition from university into the work place, McDermott and our industry.

The focus is on providing a foundation of understanding about the various operations and functions within the company and how they interact. In our EPCI environment, we believe it’s important for engineers to be familiar with all other aspects and their interdependence right from the start. Knowledge of all functions and exposure to various areas of the company through GGDP enable informed career planning choices. The program also supports career growth by providing a pathway to earn professional accreditations.

In the first year, training and development activities include formal classroom instruction by McDermott engineering managers; field trips; on-the-job experience in Fabrication, Engineering, Project Management and Marine; and team building exercises. Experienced leaders are assigned as mentors, who provide professional counsel and support to GGDP candidates.

In the second “200 series” year, young engineers move further in their careers, focusing on their specialty discipline. The “300 series” involves applying what was learned through the 100 and 200 series and on-the-job experiences, with coaching from supervisors and a three-day presentation workshop. With this input and guidance, candidates prepare a technical paper and formally present it to Engineering management at the conclusion of the seven-month course.

Along with GGDP, programs and processes have the goal of enabling career growth, ensuring talent and resources support fast-changing business needs, and developing well-rounded leaders:

  • Development and Performance Management
  • Career Framework
  • Career Planning and Pathing
  • Learning and Development
  • Succession Planning
