Government Operations

McDermott's Government Operations segment supplies nuclear components to the U.S. Government and provides various services, including uranium processing, environmental site restoration services and management and operating services for various government-owned facilities, primarily within the nuclear weapons complex of the U.S. Department of Energy. This segment's activities are primarily conducted through our subsidiaries, Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group, Inc. and Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc.

Achievements and Innovations
  • Designed and delivered 95% of the marine boilers used by US Navy fleet in Tokyo Bay at Japanese surrender (1941-1945)
  • Provided components, materials and process development for Manhattan Project (1943-1945)
  • Designed and fabricated components for USS Nautilus, world's first nuclear powered submarine (1953-1955)
  • Designed and supplied reactors for NS Savannah, world's first commercial nuclear ship (1961)
  • Decontaminated and decommissioned first commercial plutonium laboratory in the US (1981-1985)
  • Manage and operate Strategic Petroleum Reserve as part of DynMcDermott (1993 - )
  • Downblend weapons-grade uranium to commercial reactor-grade from Russian and US programs (1998-2006)
  • Contracted to manage & operate Y-12 National Security Complex and Pantex Plant (2000 - )
  • Manage and operate the Los Alamos National Laboratory as part of Los Alamos National Security, LLC (2006 - )
